Andy Tillison (Keyboards) and Luke Machin (Guitar) of THE TANGENT rehearse their Berlin School Electronica section of the Tangent's set for the forthcoming European Mini Tour in May/June 2014. The tour features the two full progressive rock bands The Tangent and Karmakanic including members of Maschine, The Flower Kings and in London the band will be joined by Theo Travis, longtime associate of Tangent and currently the wind player with the Steven Wilson Band. All tour dates can be found at the Tangent website www.thetangent.org.

This piece was recorded by Andy in Yorkshire, England in one take and similarly by Luke Machin in Brighton, England using an internet link. The music is all live with no overdubs from either musician. There are two parallel 4 note sequencers running for the duration of the song in the same way as Tangerine Dream would have used analogue step sequencers. This piece features the (currently) new Roland FA-06 workstation which is responsible for all the keyboard sounds you hear (minus the ebow guitar patch and the Mellotrons) - regardless of which keyboard appears to be being played. The laptop computer in the video is creating these other sounds and the large desktop computer is only switched on because it happened to be switched on. It's not doing anything. The arpeggios are generated by the FA-06

The Tangent/Karmakanic hybrid band play the instrumental "Doctor Livingstone (I Presume) from The Tangent album "The Slow Rust Of Forgotten Machinery" This version features on the Tangekanic live album "Hotel Cantaffordit" recorded at the New Jersey Proghouse in October 2017. After the album was mixed we then found out that some kind soul had filmed it - so - one camera only, here's the band doing their stuff... a long way from home. More info at www.thetangent.org. Dony Permedi's original animation with new unofficial soundtrack by Andy Tillison of The Tangent. The soundtrack was recorded as part of a lesson on adding soundtracks to video at Leeds City College in 2014. The entire process of writing, recording, mixing and syncing took 2 hours. It was done using Cubase 7 and used the old Edirol Orchestral plugin for all instruments.

A 2010 performance of a song I wrote about a city that probably my favourite. Iput it here along with the following text (on Facebook) because of the events in Paris recently. I have disabled comments to keep trolling to a minimum.

In 2006 (or maybe late 2005) I set off from Rodez near Toulouse on a 125 cc motorcycle and rode more than 600 miles across the Massif Central, the Mountains of Cantal, up through the Sologne and into Paris. It took a long time and I was pretty sore... and I had to go back the next day. My friend Vince and I went to see Van Der Graaf Generator that night, at the Bataclan - scene of horrible carnage last night. My memories are of chatting to Hugh, David and Peter in the little rooms behind the stage and a fantastic night of music and a heady vibrant city that I have always thought of as a spiritual home. Sally and I, a couple of years later later walked over 20 miles in one day around the city in a day we will never ever forget. In 2006 I slept rough there for a few days as I tried to get home. It is a city that is part of both the low and high points of my life. I wrote a song about it and my fortunes there. It had this line in it...

"There's two Cities in this town, and I'm living in one, but I could be in the other Tomorrow."

This old song is for everyone there Yesterday, for every passer by who dropped a few cents into my hat, for every restauranteur, cafe owner, tourist, metro driver and gallery owner, street artist and homeless person in a sleeping bag near the Gare Du Nord. I have loved your city as long as I have known it. My memories of it, both good and bad are among the strongest and most vivid of a lifetime. Strength to you all. A tous mes amis Francaises.

A preview of the forthcoming album "Drink Of The Wilderness" by The Kalman Filter - a new electronica project from Andy Tillison (The Tangent). The music is inspired by the valley of Upper Nidderdale and the dams that still work there day to day. The video is necessarily of low quality as the 1930s newsreel source is exceptionally small and low resolution. The CD is available from www.thetangent.org

The music curiously resembles something from The Tangent's new album called "A Few Steps Down The Wrong Road" and also resembles a bit of Pink Floyd too but so what?. The new album is called The Slow Rust Of Forgotten Machinery, it's out on the 21st of July and does not feature the 100,000 massed voices in the video. Song in reaction to the massacres at three concerts in France, England and the USA. This live performance was recorded in New Jersey USA by the European prog collaboration TANGEKANIC - a band featuring memebers of both The Tangent and Karmakanic.
