2 things to clarify:
1. the wider your split/straddle is when you do the rotations without your hands on the ground, the harder it will be. I.e. if you have your legs at a 90 degree angle it won't be very hard, but the closer you get to 180 degrees (a straight line) the more your muscles will need to engage.
2. Midway through I talk about working through and increasing your range of motion of your torso while in the straddle and say most people start with the floor. I mean most people start with the floor as their goal/reference point, not that they can already reach it! once you can comfortably reach the floor there are other positions that help you get further :)
